The Apprentice Act, 1961

Applicability:

The Act is applicable to every establishment, except to those specifically notified by the Central Government in the Official Gazette.

Category of apprentices & Payment of Stipend & hours of work:

 

Category of Apprentice Period of Training Min. Rate of Stipend House of Work
1. Trade Apprentices 1st year of training Rs. 820/- p.m. Overall, 42 to 48 hours per week (including time spent on related instruction).

1) 42 hours per week (during basic training).

2) 42 to 48 hours per week (second year of apprenticeship).

3) Work for the same no. of hours per week as the workers in the trade in the establishment in which the trade apprentice is undergoing apprenticeship training. (Third & subsequent years of training)

Note: - No trade apprentice to work between 10.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m., without the prior approval of Apprenticeship

2nd year of training Rs. 940/- p.m.
3rd year of training Rs. 1090/- p.m.
4th year of training Rs. 1230/ p.m.

4. Technician (vocational) apprentices

 

1. Engineering Graduates (for post-institutional training) Rs. 1970/- p.m. Shall work according to the normal hours of the department in the establishment to which they are attached for training.
2. Sandwich Course (students from degree institutions) Rs. 1400/- p.m.
3. Diploma Holders (for post-institutional training) Rs. 1400/- p.m.
4. Sandwich Course (students from diploma institutions) Rs. 1140/- p.m.
5. Vacationed Certificate Holder  - Rs. 1090/- p.m.
